the charles johnson experience 

 

Charles Johnson is a Richmond, BC singer, songwriter, musician with over 3 decades of experience.  

He is versed in a wide range of musical styles, including Rock, Folk, Country, Jazz and R & B.  He performs a variety of covers as well as his original material.  As both a solo artist and a band member, he has played in every type of venue from small clubs to large arenas.  

He has a variety of influences from Al Green to Bob Marley to Chris Cornell of Soundgarden.  

Charles grew up in the small town of Ferrum, VA USA.  He started off playing banjo in his father's bluegrass band and then moved up to R & B/Dance/Rock bands in his teens and 20's.  He is the singer/guitarist in two Virginia based bands, TK-421 and Bananas At Large.  He has also held the guitarist spot in the touring band of Grammy-nominated Contemporary Jazz Star Najee.  During his time with Najee's band, he has played alongside such artists as:

Will Downing 

Phil Perry

Alex Bugnon

Meli'sa Morgan

Regina Belle

He also made an appearance on Najee's 2015 album, "You, Me and Forever" providing vocals/guitar on the Ambrosia cover, "Biggest Part Of Me."  

Charles is now living in Richmond, BC CAN and performs as a solo artist, under the moniker The Charles Johnson Experience, or The CJE.  He is in the process of recording a full-length album to be released on Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon and other streaming services.  He also recently submitted a song to the CBC Searchlight 2022 competition, entitled, "We're In This Apart."  

When Charles performs, whether the attendance is big or small, he has but one goal:

"Let's make some magic happen".
